Fun Friday Activity: Benjamin Franklin

How cool is this!  A few of my kiddos made Benjamin Franklin with pattern blocks.  Do ya'll see the key?  They even included the lightning:)

These are a few of the books we used .  Then my students took their own notes.

They copied their notes onto kite shape lined paper.
Then they glued it to the back of a kite shaped tagboard.

The kiddos divided the front of their kites into 4 parts and drew a picture of Ben Franklin's accomplishments in each part.  They added a real key to the string of the kite.

Here are a few samples of our finished kites.

 Lots of good writing!

 I also love their pictures!

We hope you enjoyed our Fun Friday project!

We will be involved in a Blog Hop for Teacher Appreciation on May 5.  Hope you will check that out!

Fun Friday: Great Egg Drop Experiment for Your Kiddos

Happy Fun Friday Teachers!

There's a great science experiment that we would like to share with you.  We tried it with ages 4-7 and they all did a great job!  The objective is to build a container that protects an egg when dropped from a high place.  We discussed how the container has to be hard, but the surrounding material has to be soft.  We talked about how objects in motion stay in motion and the egg would then crash into the container and break.

The kids broke into groups and came up with team names.  One of the teams even added a parachute to theirs!

Here are their finished products.  2 out of 3 kiddos kept their eggs from cracking!  Team Eggies, Eggers, and...Charles :)

Feel free to share your egg drop stories with us.  Our kids really enjoyed it.

Now it was time to write about what we learned.

Brand New Math/ELA Bundle and Fun Sunflower Activity

We are so excited to share this plant bundle of activities! Right at a 100 pages!  Lots of ELA and Math print and go sheets, 2 scoot games, word sorts, and read around the room cards.  We just finished recording the Plant Song and our kiddos love it!  There is a book with colored pages that has the words to it and a coloring book for your kiddos to color and follow right along with you.

I just cut the pages and made a Plant Song Big Book because my kiddos love big books!

Here is just a page from the book.  The kiddos got a black and white copy to color.

This is one of my kiddos using their coloring book to answer one of the worksheets that is included.  My students loved coloring the book that has the words to the rocking plant song!

This is one of our color coded math sheets that are great at math time or as a morning sheet.

One of the 5 Print and Go Vowel Sheets

There are 2 Fun Missing Addend Scoot Games or there is cute manipulatives you could use in a center to help the kiddos answer these math task cards.

There are Read Around the. Room Task Cards with our mascot, Quentin the Quality Penguin.  My kiddos love to see Quentin!

These are a sample of the 21 word families that your kiddos can sort in Reading Groups or in ELA Centers.

These are Task Cards that can also be used in a center or as a Scoot Game.

You can get this sheet and 3 more on our Facebook page as a Facebook Fan Freebie:

This is a fun math sheet that we did after we talked about roots.  My students thought it was cool!

That's enough advertising for now:)

Now on to our sunflower project.

So, we decided to start Fun Friday a couple of days early because this sunflower project is taking us a few days to complete.  But it will be worth it.  First you fold a large piece of blue construction paper at the bottom so your kiddos will know where to glue tissue paper and brown construction paper.  We just had the kids tear it to give it a textured look.

Then you give them a stem to glue or ya'll can just have them cut one out themselves.  Give them a rectangular green piece of paper the width of the blue paper and show them how to cut it to make grass.  remind them not to cut all the way to the top.

Next they can curl the pieces with their fingers.  This makes it look more like grass.  Then they will glue the grass at the top of the brown paper.

Give your kiddos a folded piece of green paper to make the leaves.  Show them how to cut on the fold to make 2 leaves.

We talked about the seed's coat and how it splits  and showed them how to split a sunflower seed with their teeth so they could see the seed in the middle.  They loved doing that!  Then they glued the pieces at the bottom of the stem.

We gave the students a piece of yarn they cut into 3 pieces and glued for the roots.

We will let all of that dry and we hope ya'll will come back tomorrow and see the next part of our sunflower project.  It's going to be awesome!:)

Welcome Back!

We gave the kiddos a folded piece of yellow and orange paper and this petal pattern to trace.  They traced it two times on the folded paper.  Then cut them out.  This gave each student 8 orange petals and 8 yellow ones.

Then they glued the petals in a pattern on the stem.

We gave them a black circle to glue in the middle and sunflower seeds on the black circle.

Then we labeled the parts and the needs of the plants.

We will write about our picture and add a fun detail that will give us a 3-D effect.

Be sure to join us tomorrow and see the final product:)
